Default Head Study

I shot some close ups the other day mainly to see how they would turn out without having to crop to achieve the results. Here are some examples:

First a blue eyed White Goose, and yes this is the actual eye color seems to be a trait within the goose population I was photographing.

Blue Eyed White Goose

Here is the first ugly duckling close up. A little blue eye in these guys also.

And the final one actually has a normal colored eye. Thanks for looking.

Great Shots Fred! I love duck, even ugly ones. l.o.l I've attached a link to a copy of your 1st one; to show what you can do in Light Room, It's pretty powerful. I will remove it in a day or two. Just want you to see it.

Thanks Michael, I have Aperture and Photo Shop so I can edit to this when I want. I normally try to recreate what I saw at the time and tend to not to like over saturating photos. Every now and then I have someone who wants a print that way so I will make the changes for them. For me less is more, but thanks for showing your version.

Excellent head shots, Fred. You've managed to make even an ugly duckling look good! I'll be over tomorrow for a portrait, okay?

They sure wouldn't win any beauty contest but your shots of them sure would. Thanks for sharing.

Fred...a blue-eyed goose? That is just amazing. Especially when seen in the original size. There is detail you just can't quite see this size, like the interesting detail on the ring around his eye. What a world. I'm left with a sense of awe.

Thanks Mike, I missed you today, I guess it must have been because I was away from home today. I'll be around tomorrow or over the weekend, so drop on over and I'll fix you right up. Remember you either have to sit on a limb or stand in the water so I'll know how to take the shot.

Thanks Angelb, they might win a beauty contest if they were up against some of the others in the area. They are so ugly even I don't take their photos.

Thanks lindy, when I started shooting these guys they just kept getting closer and closer. I have cropped in the past to see this type of shot and just wanted to try filling the frame with their heads. You are correct in that the large sizes look better. I was contacted today about using one of these shots on a calender, I sent them a proof of a different shot I have of the blue eyed goose that is actually much better than I showed. We are in negotiations now on the usage, wish me luck.

Thanks Fred, these were shot with my Sigma 500mm zoom lens at 500mm, and hand held. I recently tested a friends Nikon 600mm lens and they are sweet, but at 11k each I need to become a pro or figure out a way to let the company buy it as a business expense and I don't think either case will ever happen.
