Default Japanese Gargoyle in Black & White

One of the many "onigawara" or Japanese gargoyles that adorn the roofs of old temples at Matsushima in northern Japan. It was a gloomy wet day so the B&W effect really helped to bring out the mood and the detail. It also helps that I love old Japanese architecture.

Thanks everyone. I have a lot more photos from Japan too...and more of this type of photos as opposed to the standard tourist brochure photos...maybe I'll dig back to those and share those as well!

great shot also love the architecture (most Japanese art) and the use of B&W (not always a fan).

It also makes me think how lovely it would be when the blossoms are out. You are lucky to visit Japan on a regular basis.

Though I think there is an adage that goes something like: A lucky man depends on his good fortunes, a smart man makes his own. So maybe you are a smart man.

Love to see more.

The cherry blossoms are gorgeous. Though the most beautiful spots are usually crammed with tourists and it's soooo hard to get any photo of JUST the blossoms on the trees!

I am lucky. Though I go there for work so...to tell you the truth...13 hours on a plane is torture along with having to work through the jet lag. However, it also allows me to get some pics that not everyone in the world has seen! So in that respect, yes...I'm both a lucky and maybe somewhat a "smart" man
