Default Red Admiral

We went to a Country Park in Cheshire on Sunday and I managed to catch this Red Admiral perched on a thistle.

thanks for the feedback - trying to get close enough and the butterfly not move was the challenge

lol, I know what you mean! There was a huge, beautiful butterfly zipping through my backyard the other day. I chased it all over for about 20 minutes and only got one ok shot out of it. You did a much better job than me!

hey butterfly shots are really taking off. This is a cool photo tim but i have just done a bit of research into the difference between a tortoishell and a painted lady. We are apparently being invaded by thousands of the latter which is great for us photo maniacs. Sorry to be a know all but your photo is of a painted lady and not a red admiral i kid you not, boy i would love to get a shot of one of those.
thanks for sharing honest got any more ??

Beautiful shot. I love the way it posed for you on top of the thistle.
