Default Lightening filled cloud....

Saw a beautiful cloud last night filled with lightening... these were my first attemps at not only night photography, but lightening... (slow shutter, no flash, etc). Of course I got out the tripod and tried my best to explain to my husband why I couldn't take many photos in succession.....
Anyway, I thought I'd share... I could be the only one who thinks this was absolutely beautiful - wish I could've captured it a bit better. There are a few more posted on flickr....

I had to use manual focus, which is also something I'm not so comfortable with yet (I'm still a noob)... I tried several different settings to get just what I wanted. I couldn't choose shutter priority or "night" setting.... guess I had to turn off the flash manually... it kept wanting to fire no matter... LOL. There was a "street lamp" off to my left which was a bit distracting... no post edit...

This is as captivating as any other lightning picture that I have seen. You have a real gem in this shot with everything lighting up from within

Absolutely beautiful! I love that you can also see the stars in the sky above the clouds, gives a unique perspective of the scene.
