Default Small Portion of Waterfall

Big Creek at Three Forks

On a recent short trip to western North Carolina, we took a quick drive to a hiking trail in northeastern Georgia. This is a small part of a larger waterfall (with cascades totaling maybe 20' in elevation drop) on Big Creek, just before it enters into the Three Forks area. Three Forks is the place where Big Creek and 2 other creeks all meet to form the West Fork of the Chattooga River. It's a gorgeous setting in a beautiful and remote part of the state - well worth the time and the effort if you're ever nearby and in the mood for a bit of an adventure.

Had a hard time with the crop on this one, and finally settled on this one, in 16:9 format.

Thanks for looking.

Yes it is a gorgeous setting! Great job on the crop too. The water runs nice through the frame. It looks so refreshing and peaceful there.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the crop. Man, if our group had the time, I sure would've liked to stay at that place for an hour or two.

Right after we left Three Forks, and when we were about 45 minutes away from our car, it started to rain. Not just a normal rain, but a 40 minute downpour. Luckily, I had enough waterproof things with me and I was able to keep the camera dry. I wasn't so lucky, however. We weren't a very pretty - or nice smelling - group by the time we made it to lunch.

What a beautiful setting...and I agree on the crop. Sounds like a nice place to visit.

Not just a normal rain, but a 40 minute downpour

Sounds like you had a lot to contend with, but what a location and what a result - good choice of crop
Everyone by now knows I like water pictures, and this one is excellent. Theres obviously so much more scope and opportunity at this locatioon that a return visit (s) is surely a must

Leona - Thanks very much. It is a beautiful place, but the trail is a bit primitive and not too well-marked. We got lucky and found it on our first try.

Steve - Many thanks. The rain was actually kinda of fun, I was with my wife, brother-in-law and his wife. Not much else to do but laugh about it. (There was no lightning, thank goodness.)

I'd go back to Three Forks soon and often, if possible. This spot is close to where my daughter goes to camp for a bit during the summer. Since camp is (sadly for her) over until next year, I fear that a return trip to this place (that's an 8.5 hour drive from my house) will have to wait until summer 2010.

Wow! That is awesome. One of the many wonders of nature, and captured so beautifully. Well done!

Thank you very much. It was peaceful . . . we saw no other humans during our entire 3+ hour hike.

Vin - Thanks so much for the feedback. So, now all you need to do is hang out in a similar place and wait for an osprey or 2 to visit.
