BACK:
This reminds me of the Japanese Heike Crab, aka Samurai Crab. One of the most famous ballads sung by classic musicians in Japan is the sad true story of the Heike clan. Unlike most ballads, this one tells the tale from the losing side. In a final great sea battle in 1185, all the warriors of the Heike clan were destroyed by the Genji clan, and their bodies left to rot in the sea. Today we can find crabs whose carapace looks remarkably like a Heike samurai warrior. It is told the the ghost of Heike still lives in the crabs. Many crabs look like human faces, whether or not they are from the Sea of Japan. This one definitely carries a japanese spirit. ![]() Camera: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100) Aperture: f/2.8 Focal Length: 6 mm ISO Speed: 100 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: On, Red-eye reduction FRONT: ![]() Camera: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100) Aperture: f/2.8 Focal Length: 6 mm ISO Speed: 100 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: On, Red-eye reduction Bye, Bye ![]() Camera: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Exposure: 0.125 sec (1/8) Aperture: f/2.8 Focal Length: 6 mm ISO Speed: 100 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire

Flavio, thanks for more great shots. The second one can be used in a Rorschach Test. Although, he reminds me of a certain U.S. Senator.

The first time I heard the story of the Samurai Crab was in COSMOS by Carl Sagan. There he mistakenly used that as an example of evolution under pressure. Very interesting indeed.
