Default Lightning captured

Hi everyone. I'm new to DPS, new to photography and this is my first post

I've been learning photography for about 5 months (thanks to DPS ... my 1st photography school/instructor). The shot below was taken during the fireworks at English Bay, Vancouver, BC on July 25, 2009. It was the first time I took some shots of the fireworks "using DSLR" and ohh .... also using "M" (wow I'm learning) LOL. Fireworks night was terrible because it was raining hard with lightning and thunder. hat night I almost gave up photography, lol. The entire fireworks show (approx 25 min) I had both feet guarding my tripod to prevent it from getting knocked down by people around me, yes I was in the middle of the crowd. Had a remote shutter n my left hand and an umbrella to the other hand, lol. Damn, its such a hard work.

Anyways, when I got home (soaked n wet) I inserted the card into my comp and about halfway of browsing the pics I was amazed of what I captured. It overexposed the shot and I had to darken the pic just to get a better image of it.

Here it is.....

overexposed shot due to lightning

Hello and welcome .. this is a great photo considering it's your first firework attempt .. like everything else, with a little more practice you can perfect your work .. don't give up

Wow that's beautiful! It turned out much better than any of my attempts to capture lightening. It's so freakin fast. =)

wow, thats such a cool photo. very well done. The lightening frames the fireworks perfectly. If I had to make one comment on how it could be improved I might just suggest that you could have aimed just a little bit lower to capture a few more of the umbrellas in the foreground. I think they add good perspective to the shot. you should be proud of this one!
