Default Praying Mantid: above and below

I was surprized to find this insect in the open. It asked for a fotoshoot and I did it for free.
After all I'm just trying to learn a thing or two about this fine art.
I think the details are better seen in a larger format. Feel free to visit my photostream.
Thanks for looking!

Both of these are remarkable. I especially like the lighting and the pose in the first one. Great detail in both, as well.

I'd be proud to call either of these mine.

Well done!

Thank you Chip. I seem to remember I took those at noon time and the sun light was harsh. Although the mantid was not moving I used a fast shutter and selected a DoF that included the whole insect. I did some PP to get better color definition and composition.

The lighting might've been harsh, but it looks nice and dramatic to me. Good job in post.

What expressive eyes! Startling, in fact. You know, Flavio, the combination of angle, background, sharpness of your photo, the negative spaces by the legs all work to lead your eye to this haunting expression. That's just grand!

Thanks Kodiak.
These are very shy creatures. I was lucky this time.
