Last month I bought my first DSLR. The previous camera was a Kodak Z740. I felt that the images I captured did not meet the image I had in my mind of the subjects I shot. While my new camera,(Nikon d60) is doing a better job of matching my mental images with the ones I see through the viewfinder, I wonder if I am expecting too much of my self or my equipment. I have included some of the first subjects I shot with the Nikon and look forward to some useful tips to help with my technique and composition.

Welcome to DPS.
You have found a nice forum where people learn from each other. There are many excellent photographers around that will be able to give you guidance and advice. In a short time you will see that you photography improves considerably! Just to let you know my opinion on this nice set. In all cases (exept the first sepia -just a bit out of focus(?),lets put it aside for now) I failed to find the subject of shot. It took me a while to understand the photo. For starters, I would suggest you kinnda stick to the "rule of thirds" and try to make the subject of the photo BE the protagonist. Keep them coming!

I sort of agree with Flavio, although I like 2 and 3. I think I would love 1 in color...and in clear focus. Keep them coming...can't wait to see mroe.
