WELCOME to DPS. I assume this is your daughter? Well, she's adorable. In the first one, I would like it better if her finger wasn't in her eye, but all of them are really good. My favorite I guess, would have to be #2...first of all, I can see her entire face and she is face on. How old is she and how do you pronounce her name?

.. thanks Leona. Well thanks for the comments and the welcoming! She is a dear friend's daughter, and yes she is a really sweet kid. As for the b/w, I see what you say, but I still like her expression. Like, tired of making shots, but still being friendly about it

I hate to be the first to criticize, but I think your focus is off on the three. I'd also like to see some catch lights in your daughter's eyes...maybe a small reflector to bounce some light back would help

Default light

Thanks a lot auto-focus. In the second shot for example, I had a table lamp mellow light from her side, and used my flash pointing up to the ceiling, I definitely need a couple of reflectors that I can put around so I can give light more precise direction. As for the focusing, for the three I used the lens autofocus and I am not using it really well. Again in the second shot, aperture was 2.8 as I was trying to catch as much mellow-light as I could not to have her face too flash-light dominated, but then DOP got very narrow and I got fooled by the chair back, that is sharply focused probably a little closer to the lens than her face.

Alberto, sounds like you are shooting in the camera auto mode where the camera is chosing the focus points in the image. You want to change to a mode where you can pick the point of focus while holding the shutter half way down and then re-composing your image. In portrait work, you always want your point of sharp focus to be on the eyes...the rest can be soft, but the eyes should be tack sharp.

Default focus points.

Thanks again Vince! I am almost sure I was using the middle focus point and subject-locked (if so I locked on the chair it seems), but I could be wrong. I will make some careful experimenting cause I am not sure now. Thanks!
