She has begun. On the floor, I didn't get any good shots (too distracted by actually going to the con), but outside, the convention center itself made for some very fun shooting.

Love all the patterns in these shots. I think I like the stair rails the best.

And definitely, I'm not going to be proliferating threads like last year. Thanks!! I've been working hard at getting my composition together, and in the last week, I've been looking at a lot of Cartier-Bresson which has helped crack my head open a tiny bit wider. I still need to work a lot harder to stop centering everything all the time, though. ![]() I love how the guy sitting down in the middle just makes the shot. I have another shot that's just the rails of the stairs, which is more abstract and starker, but it's also just plain boring.

Another traditional I-have-to-take-it-shot of mine, the shoot-blind-with-your-arm-straight-up-in-the-air "infinite aisle" shot:
![]() The aisle numbers end somewhere in the 4000s, btw. One. Big. Hall. I had to panostitch because I was shooting with the 35mm, and there was no other way to get all four of them in the shot, without picking up the 20 other folks with cameras, and phones getting a shot, too. ![]() I also caught a candid of Marv Wolfman and Bryan Talbot (at least I think that's Bryan Talbot, if I'm wrong, someone let me know) chatting in the DC booth. ![]() And from the single panel I managed to get into today, Glen Keane dug out a copy of an old xeroxed newletter done by Walt Stanchfield called "The Twilight Bark", and proceeded to demonstrate to us how, when you were a young Disney animator, you leaped on the thing, and flipped to the part where Walt held up certain folks as either good or bad examples of drawing, to see if you were in it and where he'd put you... ![]() This panel, btw, absolutely made my day as a Disney fangirl, since the panel members were Don Hahn, Eric Goldberg, Tom Sito, Ruben Procopio, and Glen Keane. They were basically promoting a book, Drawn to Life, which is a collection of the material that Walt Stanchfield used to teach and inspire a generation of animators. As Tom Sito said (paraphrased), "If Frank and Ollie were the generals, then Walt [Stanchfield] was the drill sergeant kicking us into shape." I also have to say my absolute favorite moment of the panel was when Glen Keane asked everybody who had a sketchbook with them to raise their hands, and about 80-90% of the room had a hand up. He was both surprised and touched. I seriously seriously doubt I'm gonna make the other Disney panel tomorrow in Hall H. Y'know, the one with John Lasseter and Hayao Miyazaki... Oh, and my fave freebie on the floor? Sweeping by the AMC booth, being grabbed by a bunch of guys in black suits with white piping and greeted with "Welcome to the Village", having my headshot taken (by a guy with a Canon 50D, 24-70L, 580EXII on-camera w/Omnibounce, btw), and given a laminated Village Identification Card, and told I was Number 5814...not exactly being Number Six, but hey, they let me leave. I was jumping up and down with glee...

Ok. I lied. I made it to the Disney Panel.
![]() They showed us a bunch of awesome stuff: Toy Story/Toy Story 2 in 3-D, and some background on Toy Story 3 (Andy goes to college). Beauty and the Beast in 3D, The Princess and the Frog (the return of Disney to drawn animation and fairytale musicals. It's set in New Orleans in the 1920s). And Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo which will be released in August. It looks freaking amazing. They showed us an entire scene and it's completely mind-blowing, as most Miyazaki is.

Last one, since it seems I'm talkin' to myself, here.
But I figured this would amuse any Strobists hanging out in the thread...![]() Yes, indeed, he's got a speedlight up there. I think he was using Cybersyncs and (obviously) he's shooting Canon, with a 24-70L, iirc. He was using shorty umbrella swivels, no freaking idea how he was anchoring the stand down in the pack.
