Default Hidden Valley

A couple of days this week I had to go to the coal power plant for work. You can see the plant from the highway but you cannot see the valley below it. The exit off the highway is called Hidden Valley. All I had with me was my P&S so I pulled off the side of the road and tried to capture the "Hidden Valley" on my way to the plant.

A little grainy, but i like it. Looks like a painting. Great content and composition.

Absolutely has that painting feel to it. Well done.

Thanks. I have been working on my composition, trying to get away from that "snapshot" look. I'm not sure why it's so grainy- not the look I was after.

Thanks. I was going for composition first and and then I tried playing around with Topaz to get the look I liked.

Hi Mike,

The grains may be due to the P & S optical zoom. With my wife's P & S camera, if you zoom in on a subject the entire range of the optical zoom (3x, 5x etc) but then keep trying to zoom in more, it will continue to zoom but in what appears to be a further digital zoom as the lens does not continue to expand. The picture quality deteriorates (or goes grainy) as it did in the image of the Hidden Valley.

Perhaps this is what happened? Nevertheless, the shot still looks nice as it's not so noticeable.

Matt

Matt, that's probably what it was from. I didn't think to take my camera bag with me as it was a last minute thing for me to drive up ther and I always at least have my P&S. Besides, with the temperatures here reaching between 112 and 118F I don't want to leave my camera bag in the truck and have it melt!
