Here are some photos I took at Darlington in May 2009.
I found an empty pick-up bed in the infield (to get the fence out of the pictures) and tried the panning with the cars going into the corner at 180 mph (at night). Good shooting! everything is tough at night, although I've never shot a race at night, but I can imagine. What was your setup?

Did you get any shots of Martin Truex? He went to school with my son and I coached him in baseball. Nice job on panning. What lens did you use? All this images are nice and sharp.
