Default kiteboarding!

dave (my wonderful, tripod toting/setting up boyfriend) and i took a quick jaunt on the ATV the other day to photograph the kiteboarders/windsurfers. i took many, many shots, but these are the ones i was most happy with. there were a few levels/saturation adjustments to these photos. i did not, however, capture the one money shot that i really, really wanted, but hey with my hometown being the windsurfing capital, i'm sure i have lots more opportunity for that!

for all of these photos the ISO was set to 800 (I KNOW, super NOOB move but) it enabled me to use a shutter speed of over 1/1000, which made it INCREDIBLY easy to handhold (auto-focus) shots on my 300mm lens while fully zoomed in. and i must say, my sigma 300mm zoom was a FANTASTIC used buy! it cost me under $100 CAD and i've used it for many occasions. one thing i'm wondering, is high ISO noise worse/more noticeable in night shots? because i can't really see much noise in these kiteboarding shots, but again like i said i'm a pretty big noob to all these things. anyways, here goes nothing; (PS - the tripod got no use whatsoever, other than collecting the cool, salty ocean spray!)

Cool action shot, I enjoy kitesurfing too. Do you have some of the shots with the face showing up?

Here is a litle shoot i did about a month ago and on continuous shooting and then combining a few shots with photoshop to show the whole movement.

Great action shots. Is the 300mm a VR style?

thanks everyone! it was definitely fun to shoot and i WILL be going back there soon!

and no, Heaterguy, the 300mm is not a VR. i think it's actually quite an old lens, though not sure. here it is:

Very good shots. No noticable noise that I can. Very crisp and clear.

yep, all handheld, #1 at 200mm, and #3 at 300mm. it's quite common to leave either EV or ISO set pretty high (too high for day/sunlight shooting, that's for sure). but i'm glad i accidently left it there this time, because in order to get a proper exposure i had the shutter speed at over 1/1000, which is why i could hand-hold these shots with no blur whatsoever.
