Default Fishing.

I'd thought I'd share this shot of a juvenile black headed gull I captured just as it was about to dive for a fish.

Wow, what a capture. Right time at right place or wonderful equipment and exceptional skill?

I had to wait for the shot, but I was at a wildlife reserve, so definitely in the right place. The shot's not as sharp as I'd have liked which is partly due to the limitations of my equipment and partly due to my inexperience. It was taken hand-held with a Nikon D90 and a Nikkor 70 - 300 mm VR II lens (which, due to the APC sized sensor is, in real terms, 105mm - 450mm). Had I been able to use a faster shutter speed the shot would have been sharper.

It's my first shot of a bird in flight though, so I'm not too unhappy with it.

Great job. I love the color on his wings and the look of intense purpose in his dive.

Great capture! You snagged this one perfectly and the background is excellent, too!

Thanks for the comments.

I'm not 100% happy with it though.
