Default The Tiara of Gloom

Well, the date on the 'ole 2009 calender tells me it's time to hang up the Tiara, put the long gloves away and pull up the rocking chair. Turning 65 tomorrow and, by USA, standards that means one thing: Old. This declaration was heralded by the arrival of the Medicare brochure in my mailbox a few months ago. The stage had already been set last year with the musical question posed by the Beatles: "Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm 64?" See what I mean? Old.

Why the Tiara, you ask. Earlier this year, I posted a Still Life photo in which I had recreated a 60's diner featuring this photo of me going to a Christmas dance wearing a tiara. I took a little ribbing for that! Keeping with the Lindyannajones theme, I have fondly referred to it as the Tiara of Doom. Today, however, I'm calling it the Tiara of Gloom. Tomorrow, I will post the Official Tiara Retirement photo. Today, I am honoring the Tiara for all its years of service at official dances and halloween parties. New song, too. Joe Cocker understands.

The Tiara of Gloom:

Tiara of Gloom

(When my mom turned 100, I asked her how old she felt. Without hesitation she said "Twenty-five". I may be turning 65, but this is how old I feel--no gloom zone)

I love it !!! Although I am not so sure that there is a need to hang up the tiara. I still see it being used for a long time to come.

Cute! Reminds me a little of another shot posted here where a new father is reading a college preparation guide with a shocked expression. No, you have to keep the tiara on all the way to the end and beyond....somebody has to lead the way......

This picture certainly put a smile on my face... not bad considering I've only had four hours of sleep and I was woken up by a jackhammer.

Such a wonderfully whimsical picture. And I agree... the tiara has to stay. Mostly so that, when someone is irritating you, you can say, "Don't make me put down my tiara!!"

All I can say is happy pre-birthday Lindy. I don't see how it's possible for such a classy lady to age at all. In my mind you're twenty five... go get 'em girl! Oh, keep the Tiara close by cause you're gonna need it for a long time to come.

Congratulations Linda on reaching a "young" 65. In the photograph from the 60's still life, you look so much like a young Queen Elizabeth II.
What a lovely self portrait. A bet a lot of hard work went into creating this and full of nostalgia for you. Thanks for sharing the past and the present.
I hope you have a great birthday.

Dave.

Thanks, Sue. I may rethink the whole tiara thing. Nice reminder. Aging is a privilege. Trying to laugh at self. My carping about getting old isn't going to help.

How did 65 arrive so quickly? With all the little girls playing princess these days, maybe the Tiara will make a comeback.

Oh my gosh. Your response has made me chuckle all day long. I shall adopt this line immediately! Thank you so much.

What a lovely thing to say, Fred. I'm committed to staying young at heart. I'm thinking a creating a plexiglass case for the Tiara with a hammer so I can't extract it "In case of an emergency". What'd ya think?

I've being practicing the Queen Wave all afternoon! This is the spoof. Tomorrow will be a little different. Quite a bit more work involved in that. Thanks for the birthday greetings!
