Safety goggles are OK.
But, never handle test tubes containg chemical or biological samples with your bear hands. The use of gloves (i.e., latex, nitrile, etc) is MANDATORY. It looks like some sort of chemiluminiscent or bioluminiscent material, those are usually toxic. I assume the compound is not fluorescent, you wold not shine UV light directly on your kid. The location where he is performing his experiment does not look like a chemistry lab. So, I guess it would not have the proper equipment to deal even with small accidents or spills. SAFETY FIRST! Once you take care of that we can talk about photography.

I think the idea of the photo is good, and I don't know anything about this stuff, but if Flavio is correct, and he sounds like he probably knows what he's talking about, it's a bit scary.

I read Flavios reply, things are not always like they seem... The chemicals in the science kit we have are non-toxic... Thanks for caring!

Safety is a two sided coin. One the one side you want to avoid or minimize accidents. On the other side you want to educate towards safety (this is the most important side!) and therefore the fact that the you were led to think the materials are not toxic (read the small printed letters...: "wash yourself well with after use", "if ingested see a doctor", " in case of irritation wash and turn to urgency care", etc) is no excuse.
It is possible that the compounds do not absorb through skin but kids (and also grown ups) have the tendency to touch their noses, rub their eyes and even put their fingers in the mouth even without thinking. That is the dangerours part! Be SAFE! is better safe than sorry!

By the way,
Einstein was NO CHEMIST. He probably never touched a test tube in his entire life.

Cute shot, its great that your son has such an interest in these things. Maybe he will be a famous scientist and invent something wonderful, under the safest conditions I'm sure. And you will be there to photograph it all .
