Default Share your Cropped Abstract Photos with us...

Abstract art seems to be an acquired taste. Two common responses come to mind. The first is "Huh?" The second is "what is it?" This thread is designed to help change "huh?" to "o-o-h!" and, for just a little while, set aside the need to know what a thing is and just simply enjoy form, color and texture without emotion or meaning. In that context, abstract art can be pure pleasure to the eyes.

I actually think we are naturally drawn to abstraction. Have you ever taken a photo of a body of water and noticed that your eye is drawn to the abstracted reflection? Something--color, shape or just the feel--draws your eye to the picture within the picture? Yes? Have you noticed the same attraction to architecture? Fur? Leaves?

This thread is designed to specifically find the abstract "painting" within an existing photo. Here's the assignment. Go find a section of a photo, crop it, play around with it if you like or leave it like it is and come post it here. Here's the most important part of the assignment: Have a blast doing it!

BTW You can post the original photo if you like or just the cropped section and let us simply enjoy your abstract photo.

Here's a few samples. I played around with them this morning, took my own advice and had a blast. Enjoy! (See note below)

Titles drawn from the great tradition of Obvious Naming. Special thanks to Chip who has labored in this vineyard for sometime. Thank you for giving us a vision of abstract possibilities.

I think this is a wonderful idea !! Here are a few of mine:

with this crop it sorta reminds me of a fish face
cold

this in itself looks abstract, but to widen the frame and to turn it sideways makes it even moreso
caterpillar face

not really sure it's abstract, but it's a shadow from a pic and I loved it

Not as wildly creative in the post processing phase, but sometimes abstraction catches my eye.

This is a crop of an over exposed macro I did at night of a spider attacking a beetle.

Lindy, I'll play along. Now I won't play nice as here are the crops only. If you can't figure them out I will post the original tomorrow.

An easy one

A little more difficult

Very nice start to this challenge. And creative idea, Lindy.

Here's my first offering. It's an out of focus/bokeh section of a photo from a while back. I've always liked the colors.

Default crop

I made this picture a long time ago.
I took the original picture with a film camera Pentax K1000. Then Scanned it and played with it in Photoshop. I don’t have the original photo but here is the final result.

I guess I was feeling abstract this day, cuz everything I kept from that day, with the exception of one or two was I suppose what you would consider abstract. So, here goes,...

IMGP1416

IMGP1396

IMGP1415
I still have to crop this one a bit,...I was using my hand to try and not get lens flare,..and I wanna crop out the road in the back.

I don't know as much about Abstract Photography as I'd like, but here are a few I do like!
