Default Testing how deep the rabbit hole goes...

... or something like that

Anyway, I got my first DSLR last weekend and I've been playing with it ever since. I just read the beginner posts about Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed and the Exposure Triangle. So I turned my camera to Manual and tried a couple of shots in my bedroom.

I like these two the most.

Depth of Field 2

Depth of Field 1

Shot with the Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i) with the kit lens (18 - 55mm),

What do you think?

First off, welcome to DPS!

If you are looking for critique, then be sure to post the pictures in the Critique Forum. You'll get more constructive feedback there than here.

But, just off the top of my head, I'm not really sure what you're trying to do with these photos. To me, they don't really accomplish much. But, then again, it's good to just start taking pictures to get familiar with a new camera.

On a more technical level, the pictures are a little noisy, but that's due to the fact that your ISO setting was at 3200. Also, the highlights on the right-hand side of the picture are blown out and a little distracting.

Keep shooting and poking around this site. There's a ton of information here between articles and actual threads. I've learned a lot myself, and I am sure you will too.

Thank you. I'm still reading through the site -- very informative. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it

Welcome to DPS, a great site. I understand,a new camera, and playing with aperture priority...that's the way to learn, try different setting and see what happens. Agree you could have set the ISO lower.
