Default worth every penny !

Took some time to put my new lense thru it's paces.. would like to share some of the results from my driveway test shooting which actually produced some really neat shots

this is a young rabbit that lives in the neighborhood, he's getting big eating all the weeds from mine and my neightbor's lawn !!

IMG_5106
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 250 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

leaving the iso on auto was a noobie mistake,, but at 250mm nice details, he was in the next yard, aprox 30 yards distance..

moving in tigher ( just a bit hee hee )

IMG_5108
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 800 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire
I probably should have cropped them exactly the same for comparison, but I'm really excited how clear this is @ 800m ..I've no more buyers guilt for spending the money lol

OK .. now what did I find in my yard ??
how bout a Robin Redbreast who caught a worm
IMG_5112
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 800 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire
reaching out so far, he didn't even know I was watching him poking in the grass, I actually shot a few of him catching the worm but they were blurred from his movement.. none the less " a late evening bird also catches the worm " !!

Quite a few attempts.. so far not exactly what I'd add to my collection as " the species shot " .. but anytime I can get a Cardinal I feel lucky .. this one landed behind me and my dog Bandit tipped me off by staring at it !

IMG_5132b
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture: f/13.0
Focal Length: 400 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off
is a bit grainey ..he had a bad injury to it's side ( missing feathers, looked terrible ) and it was perched on my Old ugly TV antenae on my chimmey .. so I cropped the heck out of just to share .. I might play around in the future and fix it up a bit .. it's a cool starting point to fiddle with.

I have to say, for having only two sessions with the new lense, it's more then I could have hoped for, the ease of use and the outstanding quailty will allow me to delve deeper into nature, I'm excited to re-visit some places with it .

thanks for taking a look and I hope you enjoyed the test lol

Vin

Vin, It's one more step towards a path that seems to be emerging before you. The sharp clarity on all of these is just wonderful. Because of that, the viewer is freed from noticing the photo and can focus on your subjects, like the rabbit with his warning ears back. That is just too cool. And birds who caught stuff--who, but you, does that? More please.

Fantastic Vin! You've got a good copy of the lens. What extender did you buy" I have the Canon 1.4 extender II, but have been hesitant to buy the 2.0 as I already have a Sigma 2.0 EX DG converter that will work with my Canon 70 -200mm f.4.0
All 4 shots are really clear and crisp!
Thanks for Sharing these
Michael.

Those are great, no remorse at all. I am jealous we don't have any Cardinals here in CA. Just amazing detail.

Nice series of images. They all look great. Sony needs a good long lens. (and I need the cash to buy it)

That's the goal if I understand it correctly .. the subject over takes any flaws and there's nothing left to do but feel whatever emotion it creates, .. I am always striving for what and why .. I say it all the time here ... I guess I'm starting to see more now, like all the experianced folks told me I would !! 5k shutter clicks has to have some effect lol !

thanks Lin

thanks Micheal.. I had bought the canon 2x a while ago and was using it with my 70-200 which now has really proved it's worth by capturing flying birds ( the 70-200 is an awesome lense ), I find it a little hard with the new lense to rely on AF,, becuase I am so used to manual .. but it does really well even at 400m out in AF..not a chance at all with the 2x extender though... so I pick and choose when to put in on, I might miss something moving lol.. glad ya liked them !

thanks frank, your Sony serves you well and if they did make a 100-400 I'm sure it would cheaper then Canon which charge too damn much, but it does produce !

thanks everyone for your kind words ... more telephoto shots to come
