Default Risked Life, Limb and Camera for These

This is another one of those "Oh Good God, you f'ing did what this time?" stories. Almost as good as the deer pic one, that I know at least a couple of you remember. The other half and I got up early this morning, saw it was gorgeous out and decided to go for an early morning bike ride. I have gotten into the habit of taking the camera along ... I criss cross the strap across my chest and have the camera hanging down my back. (The only pack I have for it is a huge backpack that is way to cumbersome for these rides) So anyway, gorgeous morning, the air / temp is perfect for a ride, the sun is shining, flying down the road, going past my favorite fields, when out of the corner of my eye I catch the sun playing on a spider web. I tried to stop the bike so I could get a few pictures, however I have just started using the saddles on the pedals (not sure what they are really called) to help going up the hills, I hit the brakes, bike stops, I try to get off the bike, but both of my feet were stuck in the saddle things, bike and I go crashing to the ground. Landed at first on my hand and knee, but somehow my elbow got involved in it and ended up on the ground on top of my camera in the middle of the road. I'm laying there shocked that I just pulled such a damn stupid stunt, hurting like crazy, my husband comes back trying to ask me what happened, a car is now coming down the road. He got me and the bike to the side of the road. Nothing felt broken, but my knee was already 2ce it's normal size, so he flew home to get the truck while I sat on the side of the road. A couple of minutes later I figured I might as well at least get a couple of pics of that dang web that started all this and make sure the camera is ok. I did end up spending a few hours in the ER after he picked me up just to make sure all the super swollen areas did not have any hidden breaks or nicks in them. All's good, I have crutches, meds and orders to rest for the next couple of days. Sadly no more bike rides for at least a week or so.

So, after that long story for those still reading, here are my wonderful shots from our latest bike ride, please enjoy them !! Also, feel free to laugh your fannies off at the image of someone toppling over thinking," Damn this is gonna hurt and there isn't a thing I can do now" while it's happening. Cuz we are now!!

This is what started it all

Thank goodness you and camera are OK. And look at the beautiful shots you got. There is no sacrifice too great, eh?

Yes, those pedal clips can be tricky. I remember the first time is used them and ended up like you, just falling over when my feet still attached. Practice with those puppies a bit before you go out with the camera again.

Nice shots and a good story.

The best spider web I have ever seen! Period! No kidding!

For a stunt like this, I thought you might need big feedback. Jeepers, Sue. Let's see, how can I say this. I'm so glad the camera is okay. Now, that's not to imply that I'm glad you took the hit. Did that come out right?

The first thing I thought when reading this story - was oh no, the camera is broken and these were the last shots. GLAD that I over reacted. Beautiful photos!

Teedles! Well at least you got the Caputures! The spiderweb on the flowers is very well done and I love the backlight from the sun on the 3rd one as well and that's a lovely flower capture!
The Saddle things are called Cages. I do a lot of riding myself and I use clip on peddles, While learning to use them, I fell several times; I never had my camera though, I even started wearing Elbow Pads until I learned how to get in and out of the darned things!
Glad you are ok and enjoy the Meds!!!!
Thanks for sacrificing you Body for DPS

Sue, that is awful! SNORT!!! No seriously, I'm glad your camera survived... No no no, I am really happy you're OK. The camera can be replaced but you cannot. I imagine you're glad the only one that may have seen it is your hubby. The spider web is absolutely beautiful. Great capture.

/BIG HUG

are you ok ? ..

Sheesh, it's just a freakin spiderweb !! now if it had a talking spider named charlotte in it, I can see trying to break your neck to shoot it !!

Have your other half take off the " Strap your feet to the pedals KAMIKAZI " things off your bike, they are not conductive to quick hop-offs to get photos and are interferring with your photographic advancement !!

Your photos are wonderful Sue ! .. that is a killer web shot, perfect natural setting ( see them lit up with black backgrounds all the time BORING ! , this one really POPS ..

and I love the sun shot .. great flare and awesome foreground .. your flower shots are always beautiful and these are no exception.. the color tones in the last are peaceful and warm, well done on all of them ! ( you post pretty good on pain killers !! )

I hope your not feeling too bad and you heal up quickly, sorry that happened ( it's not funny you got hurt ). Get some rest, a week or two goes fast and you'll be back on the horse in no time ( you really need a camera backpack as a " get well present"

feel better and awesome set !

Vin

Great shots teedle, glad you were not hurt. I will admit I am lmao, be nice I have every right to laugh as I have made the same mistake. Of course your reason was much more admirable than mine. I was single at the time and spotted two lovely ladies riding on the trail. So I went up beside them and started chatting. They were going so slow that I lost my momentum and couldn't get out of the clips and just fell over. They asked me if I was all right, when I responded that just my pride was hurt they rode off laughing like crazy. My buddy behind us was kind enough to capture the whole thing on video and keeps it around as blackmail.
