Default Orange abstraction

I am also part of a local online group which selects three themes a month. The idea is to post 1-7 pics a week of any of the themes (a pic a day). For July 2009 the themes are: Orange, architecture and abstract photography.

It results a bit contradictory to me such thing as abstract photography ... isn't photography an attempt to capture a part of reality? How abstract can a real thing be?

Well, I read a bit and found there are different techniques to achieve abstraction in photography (not in post processing), so I decided to give it a shot.

Here´s what resulted out of a macro shot of a fabric doll, the flash enhanced the orange color and some horizontal movement added some dynamism.

I will really like to know what you guys think about it.

Abstracto en naranja

What you have captured are lovely orange colours which could pass for a close up of a sunset. The colours are stunning. Nice work.

Dave.

Very interesting shot. In the early years of photography people were concerned with photographing objects and people the way the masters may have painted them.
Photography in some forms is about recording reality but it doesn't mean one can't think outside the box. I think we should all have a little of Salvador Dali, Picasso or Peter Max in our works.

I see that as a very nice abstract and see no reason why it wouldn't work as a piece of art on the wall. I say," well done"!

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

Thanks jakethepig! To be honest I was impressed with how the colors came out since the fabric is not really orange. That must be an interesting effect of the flash and the way the fabric reacted to it.

Heatherguy, being so new to photography this shot was a complete adventure. I even had to investigate a bit in order to understand the concept of abstract photography. At this point I understand it is a valid option and there are many ways of achieving it, even without post processing. Thanks for your kind comment.

fstopMike, I admire your photos. This must be the most flattering comment I've received. Thanks a lot!
