Default First Attempt at Fireworks

I was about a mile away. Nikon D60, standard lens, Bulb/F 4.5, ISO 100. Zoomed, cropped, color corrected and added contrast in NX2.

Not bad for being your first pictures. I do have a few tips that might help a bit.
1. use a slow shutter speed but nothing to long maybe 1.6-2 second frames.
2. tripod is a must. keep it low and zoom in so you get the fireworks about 3/4 of frame. you might need to ajust when the works start.
3. use some type of snyc cord you dont want to be pushing the button yourself
4. dont keep looking in the view finder. Trust your framing of the sky. and just keep pressing that button. you can check your pictures later.

the only thing that stinks about fireworks is that depending on where you live its only once a year. good luck and have fun with these. I bet they will turn out great in the future.

Oh yea one more thing....make sure there is no POLE infront of your camera.

Now, Id say to check your pictures when you start, to make sure your not taking a completely bad batch. Then you can adjust settings accordingly. But yes, when taking shots at night, without using a flash, always use a tripod. You can find good ones for fairly cheap online.
