Default first attempt at fireworks

We went down to the river last night to watch the fireworks. I Thought it would be a good time to really try out that manual mode in the new camera... Here are the results

Nice work, especially for a first try.

I noticed some "wiggles" in the trails on the last image. Were you using a tripod? From the EXIF data I see that you shot at 1/4th second and f/8. Anything slower than 1/25th with a normal lens (even 1/50th or 1/100th with longer focal lengths) are difficult, if not impossible, to hold with a steady hand.

To get more of the fainter sparkles and longer trails, use a longer shutter speed (Av) and larger aperture, say 1 or more full seconds, but a tripod is even more necessary for those unless you want really abstract blurs - which can be very interesting and artistic as well.
