Default Here's To You Vinam

Just to let anyone know that missed the posts. I have been struggling to correctly capture white birds. Vinam kindly provided me with some help. Had some time today so here are my results using the techniques he passed on to me. These are just some representative photos, they all turned out good. The shadows you see in some photos are from other geese. These were taken in the mid-day tropical sun, blazing like..., you get the point. May not be perfect, but works for me. Thanks buddy

I would say it worked very well, great detail left in the feathers. Did Vinam give you any insight into photographing black birds, they are my downfall.

Now that's a white Duck with feather details, you have the feathers outlined in a very light grey, thier beaks are the natural color and you can clearly see the eyes, that's the difference between a snapshot of a Duck and someone who applies knowlege and ability to the craft.

Fred adjusted his Aperture smaller and increased his shutter speed, this widened the DoF allowing the lense and sensor to grab more detail in bight light. We all get hung up on the fact our fancy cameras and fast lense' can shoot wide open, but sometimes using an exposure solution in the mid range can work wonders.

It takes a bit of adjustment to conditions, Fred's Sun is directly overhead living in the carribean and what works for him, might not be exactly what works for you.. Different camera and lense give different results.. it's actually alot of fun to work on.

You did AWESOME, you honor me with your mention and I am more then impressed, it seems you've picked it up and I'm thinking it's going to help you in other areas of photography, since your dealing with a killer sun.

great job Fred !

Vin

Black in sunlight is even harder and although I have a few good shots, it still evades me to really have a good feel.. I will say that I find it completely useless to have the sun anywhere forward of me when shooting a black bird... it's very difficult to get a white bird with the sun anywhere in front... a Black bird is always just a sillouette.

I wish I could pass on some good tips.. but other then sun direction and adjusting shutterspeed and aperture form a tight DoF to wider, I can only say, bring an extra memory chip and take a bunch adjusting as you go

Vin

Guess this means I passed your course professor. You are correct as it helped on all the iguana shots I took at the same location. I can't believe how many shots I kept, shot 208 trashed 5 and really didn't have a hot spot problem. There are different views, angles and such but any of them could be displayed. Now let's see a heron or egret and see what I can do. Again Vin, thank you for the help.
