Went out and took some photographs of my home towns firework display and would like some feed back on them. I'm using a Nikon d60 at f8 and on Bulb for all of these photos. The only problem I had was the finale where alot of bright, white, fireworks went up and were drowning out the colored ones with a big white splotch. Should I have gone with a smaller apeture? I tried to expose for about 1/2 a second but I guess it was still too much.
![]() This is from the finale..notice the over abundance of whiteness lol ![]() This was my favorite shot of the night...looks kinda like 2 palm trees. Last edited by MattB; 06-30-2009 at 06:41 PM. Reason: fix url link |

Well.. I did shoot fireworks last saturday and actually shared a couple of those shots here.. I keep varying my aperture and shutter speed depending on what I expect to see.. If I see to much of the fireworks going on like at the very end.. then I typically decrease the aperture to f11 (or even less) and increase the shutter speed.. it all depends on the final effect that you want.. If you increase the shutter speed too much.. you might not get the streaks of light.. so.. i normally keep the shutter at 2 seconds minimum and then adjust the aperture..
I try a single shot and then look at the feedback quickly and then make the adjustments and take all the other shots.. Here is the link for my thread that I posted.. Fireworks

thanks for the replys...yea i wasnt really expecting the finale to come up so soon so i didn't have much time to adjust the apeture...11mins after the start of the show lol. Guess next time I'll just have to adjust quickly and hope for the best.
