An overcast, rainy day could not dampen the opportunity to take a walk through the forest. Hidden deep within lies what is known as 'forgotten lake'. A small body of water that can sometimes yeild a wealth of surprises. Actually, I was hoping for bears. The warning signs were everywhere and close friends had seen the mom and two cubs recently. Standing quietly at the edge of the water a movement above my head caused my friend to cry out, 'what is THAT?'. To my delight an osprey had just caught his late afternoon meal and was looking for the perfect spot to devour his catch. A wonderful opportunity, dampened only by conditions that were totally against photography. Still without a thought I swung my lens in his direction. Vinam this is just for you. The quality is not the best as they were taken at the far reaches of my 400mm and I warn that the last image may be a touch gory for some. But, my dear friend, I thought of you as I managed to capture these....
![]() Coming in for the landing, note the size of the fish! ![]() the perch not quite right, needed to turn around... ![]() As he was on the opposite side of the lake I thought I would venture around to his side in the hopes of being able to see him through the thick canopy of trees. With the open sky and light totally against me, I had ample time to adjust settings and play as he was not going anywhere for some time. ![]() From this angle the fish looked rather small but I knew how large it actually was and was enthralled by the size of his talons and sharpness of his beak. Hope you enjoyed!

great shots Barb ! , from one osprey shooter to another I am jealous you got such great action shots, but also really glad you shared them ! ... they are just so cool to watch do thier thing ( cause most of the day they sit and perch and preen or look after the kids in the nest,, it's great to see them actually working for a living every once in a while !!
thank you for the mention and these great shots... it's not easy in low light at such range and they are not gonna just stand still with a fish in thier talons, I totally appreciate the difficulity and the fact the keeper ratio is about 50-1 lol great Stuff ! Vin

Congratulations to the great hunter! Not ever having come close to capturing anything like that, I have no idea how difficult it was. I'm glad you shared it and I'm glad I was able to see it.
