Default Odonata Anisoptera

Today I saw the dragon-fly
Come from the wells where he did lie.
An inner impulse rent the veil
Of his old husk: from head to tail
Came out clear plates of sapphire mail.
He dried his wings: like gauze they grew;
Thro' crofts and pastures wet with dew
A living flash of light he flew.
Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Did you know that another name for Japan is “Akitsushima” which means “dragonfly island”

Most adult dragonflies live only a few weeks. After spending a long time, up to several years, as a slow-moving aquatic nymph, the adult has a short, intensely active life as an aerial hunter.

Two more beauties, we have them here but I've never seen one stop. They must like to party like everyone on this island.

That's my problem.....I can't get them to stop long enough to draw a bead on them. Fantastic captures Michael

Nice detail in the wings. They can be hard to focus on even when they are sitting still. Thanks for sharing.

Michael, these are two more excellent captures. I love the way you manage to get the lovely detail in the wings. So delicate and you show it to perfection. Excellent work Michael.

Jake.
