Default Night roping

Saturday night at the rodeo arena for team roping events. I needed the practice on low light action shooting. This was the first time I've tried shooting fast events at night.

I love the mood of this shot.

Hey, thanks Vin. I kept playing with different settings. I started out at 400 ISO but as it got darker I was getting a lot of blur. Finally just decided to max out the ISO to see how they would turn out. It was only for practice anyway. I don't mind the grain, I kind of like it. I appreciate the comments. Thanks again.

DR, These are all so well done, especially given the conditions, this is, night and the need for speed. The first shot? I completely agree. It is so (I know this isn't a word but) rodeo-y. The rising dust gives the photo a sense of movement and provides a warming focus to the otherwise dark background. I also love the way it lights the central action. This may be one submit to a magazine or the Rodeo Committee. Fabulous photo!

Thank you Lindy. You are too kind! Gotta love a rodeo! It was fun to watch and a challenge to shoot at night. I had to catch the horses and riders in the spotlight or miss the shot. Those guys move fast and the lighting was terrible! Thanks again.

Never seen a rodeo but I find it hard enough taking pictures of horses when they are standing still. Out of all your great shots the last one is my favourite, you can sense the speed of the horses and how the guy on the right is managing to stay on the horse, beats me. For a first attempt, you have excelled.

LOVE the pp work you've done on these, very gritty and perfect for rodeo captures. The first one is my fav also!

Well done! Getting action shots at any time of day is not easy. What you've done here with the lighting you had is amazing, and I'll bet it took a lot of patience to catch them in the spotlight.
