Default Dragonfly...

I'm working with the Canon EOS XT (18-55mm) in the macro realm more these days... trying to get a feel for it. Here are a few shots from late last week...

Looks like it is working very for you. I love macro photography...I look in the lens and it's like whoa, I didn't see that color before or I didn't know that thing has 8 eyes! The details start to pop out. One of the frustrations of macro for me is the narrow dof. Like the difference between your 1st and 2nd shot The first has a out of focus tail where the 2nd is all in focus. In the 2nd, you got a true full side profile and everything comes into view. It is the nature of macro and you have to work with it....great job using the equipment you have to work with.

Beautiful shots of 1 very ugly little fella.

Seems the macro is working out very well for you.

Stunning work.

THANK YOU gentlemen. I really enjoy macro, but have done very little with the Canon. Until last week, I shot macro photos almost exclusively with the Nikon. The new 75-300mm arrives later this week, so I'm hoping to see what it can do on the macro side this weekend. The DoF will be a little deeper due to the f4 min aperture... sliding down to f5.6 (I believe) on the higher end of the zoom.

pjflan7, I agree with you regarding DoF being a challenge in macro. For the most part, it's one challenge I enjoy -- especially when using the E5700. I set it to Av and then choose my aperture before most shots... or adapt as lighting or the subject changes/moves.

If I had to pick one category to shoot for the rest of my life, it would be macro -- for exactly the reason you mentioned. Things just seem to pop out; plants come to life; bugs become more intriguing and insignificant objects become works of art.

OK, enuff of my babbling... Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!
