Default RC Cars

Please be gentle, this is the first time I've posted a photo on the interweb.
I stumbled upon a model car race at the weekend and despite being unprepared managed to get a few nice shots. My composition leaves a lot to be desired (see my flickr link) but hey I'm new to this and learning from mistakes.
Here's an example;

As stated I'm completely new to this dslr lark and have little knowledge of the different settings on my Canon 300D. I simply blatted away till the card was full (531 shots) most were hopeless but a few came out ok. It's a fortnight till the next meet so I hope to learn a bit more before then and improve on the results.

Nice action going in this capture. The red car is actually in airbourne. Cool!
I think a tighter crop, leaving out some of the left and bottom would help to focus the attention in the cars. Also, a bit of red and yellow saturation combined with contrats and brightness (like 10 min in the oven) would render the picture crisp and cruchy.
All best!

To avoid situations in which you might make mistakes may be the biggest mistake of all.

Can't decide if this quick adjustment is better or not...
