Jewish Cemetery in Prague

I was at a wedding near Prague at the weekend and we had about 2 hours spare to visit the Jewish Quarter and it's famous cemetery

These were a couple of images that I took and processed





For anyone who is wondering it is normally a custom when visiting a Jewish grave to pick up a small stone or pebble and leave on the gravestone as a sign that you have been - I'm guessing the coins were left as there are very few stones and are only symbolic as there are very unlikely to be left by any relatives

I hope no one is offended by the shots but if they are I will gladly remove them

I think that these are great and it is interesting that the stones are so jambed packed....I suppose they used ossuaries here too

i love how you just left a spot of color in each especially with the yellow peeking out from behind the stone

Thanks for your comments - I wanted to play around with GIMP and when I took these I had the idea in mind. I also felt that the images would be more meaningful like this. I have another couple I will post in due course but am undecided whether to treat either of them or not

Congratulations on a series of pictures well captured and tastefully presented. I like walking around grave yards, I find it peaceful, and it reminds me of how others lived and and how they died.
I enjoyed reading your comments on Flickr about the trip, people shouldn't be allowed to forget what took place and without any visual record as evidence, there are those who woud seek to rewrite history. Good post Sheldon
