Default Hog's Back Falls, Ottawa

Hog's Back Falls in Ottawa is a pretty sweet place to shoot. Got this one a few days ago. Used a neutral density filter to slow the exposure way down (it was a really sunny day, and even with an aperture of f/13 the exposure would've been too short to get the smoothed look), and a circular polarizer to cut some of the glare off the water.

If the colour is either too flat or a bit too gaudy, let me know (partly colour blind, and all)

Actually, I think the colors are perfect. They look crisp while remaining natural. I like this photo and think it deserves more credit than it's likely to get.

Any chance you'll be trying again sometime? I'm curious to see what else you can pull of from this site.

I don't know anything about long exposure photography -or even if that's what it's called!- but I really like it... especially since it's local. I'm from Gatineau. Hi! *waves*

I like it the colours are spot on my only pick would be the blow out in the foreground but under the conditions you decribe I think you would be hard pressed to remove it ... lovely shot look forward to seeing more

I was actually thinking of cropping out that bit, either focusing on the upper left corner, or making a vertical crop out of the left side.

I do also have a bunch more shots from that day, I just liked this one the best. I'm planning on going back soon (maybe on an overcast day, so I won't need so dark a neutral filter).

don't know if you can really avoid the blowout......it is naturally foamy and white to begin with...It will just happen if you get the rest of the exposure right....which in this case is just fine. I like the different angles of water movement and combinations of smooth and rougher water The bridge adds another compositional element as well. Look forward to other shots you get from this spot
