Default Some of my shots

I'm new here, and as a way of properly introducing myself, I figured I would share a random collection of my favorite shots. So, in no particular order,...My favorites...

Local creek

Lake Sabrina--Bishop, CA--HDR photo merge

Juvenile Panamint Rattlesnake (Crotalus stephensi)

Red Tail Hawk

I guess that's it for now. I have a TON more photographs that I'd like to share, but...I should save something for later...right?

Anyhow...I do have my "photo blog" listed in my signature. It's mostly photos, and the stories that go with them. Occasionally the rant of a disgruntled 36 year old single father...maybe even something that will make you laugh. Who knows? You're welcome to check it out to see some more of my photography, if you'd like.

Thanks for taking the time to look!

Wow, what I would give to live in a mountainous region, I envy you sir. Amazing photos I am very much in a state of shock and awe with that hawk.

Welcome. Your second shot is great. Hope you didn't have to get too close to that rattler.

I use an Olympus E-520 and a couple of Zuiko Digital lenses that came in a kit. I was really impressed with the camera, and just couldn't be hapier...

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments!

Welcome to the forum! And fabulous shots! The colors, especially in that first one, are breathtaking. Stunning shot of that hawk as well, great job freezing him in frame! I hope that rattlesnake shot was taken with a telephoto lens?? Well done!

Rattlesnakes, and snakes in general, are a passion of mine. I'm still learning how to "properly" photograph them, as I usually find them at night or dusk, and lighting gets a little tricky...but I usually manage. They also tend not to sit pretty and pose...unless they are angry and defending their territory. That rattler was shot from about 3feet away, using a 40-150mm zoom at 150mm focal length...just barely outside of his potential striking range... I will admit that I have a bad habit of laying down on my belly in front of them to get a good shot, though. I usually only do this if I am with a friend that is also competant in controling these snakes. Face-to-face can be dangerous...

But don't sweat it...I'm as close to "professional" as you can get in California. I'm not licensed or anything, but the Sherriff's Department and Animal Contrl in my county have my phone number on speed dial for removals and relocations if people have rattlers in their barns or houses. I never leave the house without a secure bucket, pair of 40" snake tongs, and a couple of snake hooks in the truck...

Here's a couple more I took earlier this spring--

Mojave Desert Sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes cerastes)

Desert Rosy Boa (Lichanura trivurgata gracia)

5foot + Great Basin Gophersanke (Pituophis catenifer deserticola)--One of the biggest gophersnakes I've ever found.

All of these snakes were found in the wild while out specifically searching habitat to locate them...

Thanks again for the compliments!
