Default First day w/ my macro lens: bug on a cactus

I finally got my hands on a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens at a reasonable price. Harder to do than you might think out here in Hawaii. I spent a day trekking around Kohala with it, and here's my favorite shot.

The little guy is about the size of a peppercorn and was running all over the cactus like crazy.

Beautiful shot of the cactus with your little friend. Did you used auto focus or Manual?
I love Macro Photography and it's challenging to learn.

Thanks! I had it set up on my tripod, so I used manual focus with the "assist" (forget the actual feature name) where it tells you when the subject is in focus.

Speaking of tripods, I'm really glad I got the Manfrotto 055XPROB with the tilting center column - that thing is great for macro photography. At one point I had the legs set to 3 different lengths, at 3 different angles, with the center column set horizontal in order to frame one of my shots right. Talk about versatile!

Anyways, thanks again for the feedback, guys! Hopefully I'll have more to post as I get more practice.
