Default Aquarium Fish

I went over to a friends place last week and took a few hundred shots of her fish tanks. It was the middle of the day so most of the pics ended up with reflections from the glass and most of those that didn't the fish moved to fast I really need some fast glass for shooting aquariums.

Anyway out of those couple hundred shots here's the only good one.

And while I'm posting fish photos, here's some of my old African Cichlids from Lake Malawi. These were taken on my old Nikon Coolpix 3100 P&S

Very cool...do you put your lens right up against the glass to get those? If not, how did you get them with no glare?

Wow, very cool images. Very colorful and well composed. I know what you mean those fish sure can move fast when you want to shoot their picture!

Great shots Free; I've never tried shooting into an Aquarium, but I would imagine a Polorizing filter would help, and of course bigger apetures help as well. You've done a good Job of capturing some Nice African Cichlids. I used to have a take full of these beautiful creatures; mine were all from Lake Tanganyika.
Thanks for Sharing these.

Thanks for the kind words.

leonaashlee - yeah, generally I put the lens flush up against the glass, this reduces glare from natural light and even allows a diffused flash if you need it.

With the point and shoot I used to use the macro setting so getting close enough was no problem.

I'm struggling a bit with the lenses I have on the SLR, as they can't seem to focus quite close enough when I have the lens on or close to the glass. I reckon a decent macro lens will help that.

Thanks Chewys Dad, I used to breed Rifties and had up to 5 tanks at any given time I've pretty much dropped the hobby entirely since moving to Tasmania as it's illegal to even give away any offspring here, let alone sell them

Never tried a polarizing filter, I just picked on up the other day so next time I'm near a tank I'll give it a go.
