Woweeee. Simply outstanding captures. The colours, composition, detail and DoF in all of these is just so amazing. I just have to say it again pbdweeebie. Outstanding, not to mention the great subjects. Awesome work.

They're so pretty. You've captured their beauty for those who have never seen them before like me.

These are Spectacular; I don't know how you could have done a better Job on these captures. I'm just learning to capture these amazing critters and seeing your work
inspires me to keep on learning.
Thanks for Sharing these

Thank you Jake. I am still working on my llt <long lens technique> and its proving to be tougher than it may at first appear! But I'll claw my way there if I have to.

Thanks. There is still a fair amount of room for improvement and it just takes a fair bit of practice. If anything, I am only a few paces ahead of you and I can assure you it only gets more exciting as you struggle happilly to capture the small birds!

Beautiful work... I really do enjoy these bird pictures. Nice going. What focal length do you use? TNX.

Thanks for viewing Fred.

These were all shot on a Nikon D300:

1] Kingfisher:- with Nikon 70-200mm+1.7tc @340mm ISO400 f/4.8 1/400s
2] Bee-eaters:- with Sigma 150-500mm @500mm ISO800 f/10 1/80s
3] Hoopoe:- with Sigma 150-500mm @450mm f/7.1 1/60s+pop-up flash

All shot in NEF[Nikon raw] format and processed in Capture NX2

Thank you Paul.

I have found that at focal lengths at and over 300mm, if the bird is perched on a branch and the foliage is only about 20-30 m metres behind it, at around f8-11, this shallow [relative to focal length] dof brings the magic out of a lens with nice bokeh - then its the blur and colour that you see in these pics that make it all worth it.

Thanks for viewing.
