Default Don't knock the Doc! A character study...

Well, that's what we always say about our dear friend Paul, who allowed me to take a few snaps of him a couple of days ago. His nickname is "The Doc", which has a long and rich history, LOL! One of the family mantras is "Don't knock The Doc!" LOL

Thought I'd try something different for me. If it sucks, please do let me know. He's just got SUCH a great face with so much character. NOT looking for detailed critiques (or I'd have put it in the critique section), but if you don't like it, please be honest, because it is my first venture into something like this.

Thanks to everyone who takes a peek and takes the time to comment.

The Doc

I like it....reminds me of General Custer.....hell, I don't honestly know what Custer looked like......first thing that came to mind...2nd thing to come up.....Grecian Formual! His hair can't honestly be that dark with a white beard! and lastly after I got past all that....I noticed the lines and creases around his face and they give a nice edge to the photo. The bw is great because of his hair and beard. It looks very well exposed with great control of the shadows....looks like a really friendly guy and somebody you could talk to for hours......Keep going!

LOL! Patrick....actually, his beard went grey long ago, his hair is only starting to show slight signs of grey, believe it or not! Funny, too, I call him "Custer" also...he's just got that look. Oh, and his stories would keep you engaged for DAYS, not just hours! He's a trip! Thank you so much for looking and commenting.

The Doc certainly looks like a great character Susan and as Patrick says hard to believe his hair is that colour. I love having conversations with guys like this and why not take some snaps. Remember, every picture tells a story and you captured one with loads of stories, interesting eh. If you cover up his hair and look again, he reminds me a little of Billy Conolly a popular scotish comedian, I don't know if you have heard of him, but if not, a quick google will show you. You did one great job with this one Susan. It got me talking anyway. lol

Susan, one look at your friend and you know he has done it all and more.. you've captured that perfectly.. it's like a short story in one picture..

Susan I like that little grin he has. He looks like a very interesting character and you have captured that so keep shooting. Also had the same Custer /Hair /beard reaction as Patrick but thats probably because he has a beard and I don't.

Susan, nice shot, but for one minor correction I'd like to see. I'd like to see a little more detail in Doc's hair..you might want to try a little Shadow / Highlight tool in PS to bring up those blocked shadow details

I think this is an avenue you should be pursuing. He looks totally comfortable with you.

(Just an aside, and I hope you take it as a joke tycooder, but the first thing I thought was probably because he has HAIR and you don't)

Susan I love the pose and the way he is looking at you. I am wondering if you didn't go far enough in your PP work on it though. Maybe a little grittier to match the personality that is coming out ? (Does that make sense)

Would you mind if I played to see if I can get what I am thinking to translate into the screen ??
