Talking First Shots from New Camera (Rebel XTi)

Ahoy everyone!

A long-time reader, I just joined the forums today. I had been waiting to get a new camera so I'd actually have something to show you. Yesterday was my 25th birthday - my mum & husband got me a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. The last digital SLR that I had was nearly 5 years ago, so I've got to get back into the swing of using one.

Of course, I started browsing around my mother's fiance's house (where we were) to take some shots. I took over 300, but the following are those that I saved & edited a bit. Enjoy! (Since I can only post 4 at a time, see the rest of the shots here).

Default new camera

Looks like you got in the "swing" of using it pretty quickly; these are all really quite nice. I am personally particularly fond of the second image; creative composition and good use of DOF to make a truly interesting photograph.

Welcome to the community Victoria ! ( no more lurking in the shadows !! )

I would not have thought this was someone's first post with a brand new camera, 4 well shot and presented photos. You have a really good " eye " for forming shots and already have an excellent start.

But now your next post is no longer the first, so we're all gonna be looking to see what you come up next thanks for jumping into the fray and sharing some of your first batch,
( 300 is nothing btw hee hee )
Vin

Talking

Such wonderful comments & a warm welcome - how could I not stay active in a community that is so fantastic!? Really, thank you all for being so inviting. I've been practicing photography for over a decade (as mentioned in my introduction), so that might explain my ability to focus in on a well-composed shot. All of your encouragement is very delightful!

I'm also glad that you enjoy the images I posted. I'll make sure to keep you all up-to-date on my newest shots so you'll be able to see my progress. I do shoot a lot of nature shots & you will rarely see me shoot humans - not my specialty. I am selling prints of my images & will begin college study in photography this Fall. I plan to focus on:
  • Nature + landscape
  • Interiors
  • Lifestyle
  • Food + Drinks
  • Still life
  • Macro

... so you'll be seeing a lot more shots in the near future!
