Default Creepy Crawlers

No names but you know who you are. I asked myself a few questions, what's in my yard? Dang flowers have been gone for months, coming soon again. What else? Are there any spiders around? After ummm, okay many years of taking photos can I take a macro? Yep never took one before.

Good found a spider, now how do I do this? Tripod, release, macro lens, yep the neighbors are looking and wondering what is the crazy gringo doing now. Got it down, now how do you take a macro in 30 mph wind? Hmm, over there on the terrace is a nice umbrella the wife left out to dry. White satin type material, perfect diffused light, and wind protection. Dang umbrella won't stay in place, okay I'll just use this cactus to hold the umbrella in place. Those long sharp thorns work great, can just mold the umbrella as needed. Okay here goes and goes and goes.............finally one possible. Now folks cut me a little slack on the spider, he is only a 1/2 inch long.

Tiny Spider

On to the next one, humm wonder if the wife will notice all the holes and tears in the umbrella. Note to self, get to mall before the wife gets home.

Number two is more difficult as I thought this was dirt on the plants. Second note to self, find the dang glasses. Setup for this is pretty much the same as the first. Mold the umbrella to block the wind by sticking it onto the nearby cactus. OMG the aliens have landed.

The Colony

Now the blame lies totally on joining DPS. Ruined a good umbrella, goofed off instead of working, made a trip to the mall and bought a replacement umbrella. Was nothing but pure FUN, thanks for guiding me to do this.

Isn't it just wonderful the fun you can have in the back yard! Great pictures are the reward you have for all your efforts.

Good job on th Spider Fred; the second looks like Aphids; Nasty things. I find most of my captures within a block of the house. Except for landscapes and Birds; and even the Birds, most I capture on the River which is just a block away.

Fred, I love to tell the story behind my photos I post here so I really like how you added the narrative .. very cool ! .. Great spider shot, I really don't like them myself ( it's an internal mental thing, I know they aren't evil lol ) .. but you got really good details and the web is visable here and there, really gives a sense of how thin and light it is.

Great colors in the second, there's a real sense of motion, industrious little buggers lol ..

thanks for sharing your photo shoot and your funny way of telling how it went,

Vin

Notice: No arachnids or aphids were harmed during this photo shoot. For any aphid lover, I am giving you twelve hours to come to PR and relocate these guys. If no one shows, they will have some trouble. Fred

Yes, it is fun sometimes we just need to look closer at what is around us.

haha, yea the Aphids do look nasty, they will get a good dose of spray tomorrow. Speaking of Urban Jungle, 99% of the bird shots I take are at a small lake behind a shopping center about a half of mile from my house. The biggest complaint I have is the trash around, I will take a bag and pick up a lot when I have the time. But no one here seems to care, kinda like the mainland in the 60s. The other problem is the crime, my wife is really worried I am going to get mugged some day. Loosing the kit is bad enough, but she knows me well enough to know they will have to take it if they want it and that's what worries her.

Vin, thanks for the comments. I like to write something every now and then. Due to the type of work I do I tend to be serious all the time. I like to make thinks light and fun every chance I get just to be able to laugh myself. The worst part of this is, what I wrote is how it went down and I really should have been working instead of playing. I am looking at doing a series and making it along a different line. My problem is my subject is just not cooperating.

teedle, glad you enjoyed, we all need to laugh every chance we get and if I can play the silly photog I have no problem. Most of time things are much more serious for me. I can let my dark side out here.

Great story there......ought to take a picture of that umbrella! That spider is about as detailed as they come....and the creepy crawlies...well that's alot of them all in one place...don't think I would be particularly thrilled to see them in my yard!

Thanks, I have ten Desert Rose plants around the front of the porch. These things are covering every plant, tomorrow they will become fertilizer. A photo of the umbrella, nope, no way, no how. That umbrella has been destroyed to protect the innocent or in this case the guilty. A photo huh, I can just hear my wife now if she saw that photo. and who the heck buys a designer umbrella anyway. I am totally too ashamed to admit the cost to replace it.

LOL, I love the story Fred... Could've been like this: DSLR $900 Macro lens $250, new umbrella $25, spidey and the aliens pic PRICELESS. The pictures are amazing, great job buddy.
