Colours and Patterns in a Salt Pan

It is getting very hot here in the Algarve and the salt water is evaporating from the salt pans and leaving gorgeous colours and patterns.

This is one of the many salt pans that form part of the Ria Formosa nature reserve here in the Algarve. The shot was taken early evening with the sunlight quite low. I can understand why you think it might have been shot from a plane but, no, I was at ground level and the strip of land is a sand bar that divides two of the salt pans. The sea water has evaporated and left this very highly prized salt. Only the top layer is harvested for the finest table salt. I belive the colors are due to other impurities. Unfortunately, the smell can be quite pungent.
Very little post processing other than a bit of saturation to the colors together with sharpening
