Default Hummingbirds

This spring we hung a hummingbird feeder at the edge of our deck. It was a couple of weeks before they found it, but now we regularly have three hummingbirds visiting the feeder. One little guy in particular seems to have declared it "his" feeder and has been busy chasing the other birds away. When he's not feeding or chasing he spends his time sitting on a branch in the tree in front of our deck. He has kindly consented to posing for pictures. Sometimes he looks green / gray while other times depending on how the sun hits him his head is bright red. Here are two of my favorites. I would post the EXIF info if I knew how to get it (sorry...I'm gonna plead newbie here)!

Default Your Hummer

If you didn't know it that is a young male Anna's Hummingbird. From his color I'd say he is about two years old.

They do have quite a personality. Has he started singing for you yet? Anna's are the only hummingbird in North America that do actually sing and not just chirp.

If you take a chair out, get comfortable and hold the feeder in your hand there is a good chance he will come and eat out of it. I have them do it all of the time.

Classyshots: I figured he was a male based on his territorial behavior (no offense to any of the fellas). I don't know if he's actually singing, but he was out there today squawking away something fierce...I thought perhaps he was warning the others to stay away. But thank you so much for the information, I sure do appreciate it!

I think these are excellent, I would love to capture one of these little fellows, but we don't see them where I live. The colours are excellent and very nice detail. These are different in as much as they are not flying. You did a great job Mrs Wall. Nice work indeed.

Jake.

Very nicely done MrsWall, lovely colorful little characters. I wish I could plead that we don't have them here but, I've been trying to capture one. Maybe soon? LOL TNX for sharing these.

It's very nice that you have such a cooperative hummer lurking about your backyard. Looking forward to seeing more shots of him!
