Default Messing around with lights...

Just messing around with my wife's jewellery stand and lighting effects. I used a wireless speedlight from lower right and set the shutter speed to the max sync speed of the camera (1/250) to allow the flash to overpower the ambient light. A lightbox wasn't used, although I had a dark screen behind.

On-board flash was off (only that needed to trigger the other speedlight), and the wireless speedlight set at 1/64th power. It was only about 4-5 inches from the subject.

Messing around with Jewellery...

Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: 1/250
Aperture: f/16.0
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 200

What do you think? Worth keeping, or should I just put it down to experience? I confess that I didn't have a particular goal in mind with this image - I was just itching to take some photo's, and with the weather being so lousy at the moment....

Thanks for looking.
Martin.

Beautiful capture potterm and the composition is excellent. I love what you did with the lighting too. Great work. How is Mrs Potterm by the way, not seen another post yet? lol. Say hi from me.

Jake.

Thanks Jake. No my other half hasn't posted anything since - I'll have to give her a nudge. She's studying for a degree part time so doesn't get as much time for snapping photo's as she'd like sometimes...

Thanks A-O. Compared to many others on here the lighting was pretty simple really. I'd love to get more creative with light but can't justify buying more speedlights at the moment - plus there are too many other things on my wish list that are competing for the same budget (lenses especially).

Cheers,
Martin.

Very nice, i know it can be hard to get good photos of jewellery so this is a great idea.
I like the statue too

Thanks Thanatoz. As I said above, I didn't really have anything in particular in mind when I did this - I just wanted to take a photo and the weather outdoors forced me inside.
