Default Return of the country mailboxes

It's been a while since I have posted any mailboxes so I thought that I would shake the box a little and see what I could come up with. The 1st pic is prefaced by a comment that I got no later than 15 seconds after I posted this on flickr. I guess it explains things. Country life could be boring.....I could see myself playing this game.....um....today!

"I've seen these sturdy mailboxes (and newspaper boxes) in my area, to foil the dumbasses that keep driving by playing mailbox baseball. "

After taking a look at the left mailbox.....I guess a more sturdy mailbox might be in order....but a bunker busting bomb could not penetrate this baby I don't believe!

I suppose this was a david copperfield fashion statement

Now, if you look at this on flickr, you will see that the right hand column still has a bit of the original barrel intact......but rusting away revealing the huge blob of concrete underneath......nobody is taking these mailboxes! Might be beaten all to hell in an intense game of mailbox baseball, but they'll still be here in the morning!

Now, if you have a leftover plow sitting in the broom closet, we have a suggestion for a better use of it. Man, this looks like an excellent candidate for maibox baseball! Just hanging out there waiting for a high speed assault. What are you doing tonight?

Now folks, I am a city boy at heart and live in the city but have to travel 16 miles through the country to work in a smaller more rural community thus much of my photography is rural in nature...hope you enjoyed these!

Really fun stuff. I like your explanations. The bunker buster proof one is great but I like the last one the best.

Ha ha ha ha ha I loved the series last time out Patrick and this set is just a good and as funny. I love your narrations that come with them. As we don't have mailboxes here in England, the mail comes straight through the front door letterbox, so it is great to see your take on them. I love the one with the giant chain. Thanks for the laugh Patrick and your great sense of humour.

Jake.

Jake, you don't have mailboxes anywhere? What about your farms, country residences and castles?

True story: A friend of mine who is a nurse got a young kid on her unit with a head injury. She asked him what happened. He was passenger in a car playing, you guessed it, mailbox baseball. The driver went by one particular mailbox while our passenger had the bat out the window. The mailbox turned out to be thick, heavy plastic and the aluminum bat bounced back and fractured his skull. Now that's what I call instant karma!

Haha being originally a country boy myself...I heard many stories like this. I heard of alot of farmers coming out to get their mail discovering a broken bat, and shattered glass all around their armored boxes. Where I am from they started blowing up the mailboxes. They would toss m80's etc. I heard a story about some kids trying this and loosing the firework in the car when lit between the door and the seat. Needless to say there was a hole in the door and in the kids leg.
