Default Since we are talking about Faires and entries...

I am going to for sure enter these 4 and maybe I will post some more tomorrow. I am going to enter no more then 8, I can not afford it right now. To much to enter, print and mount each one to do more then that.

Let me know if you think these will do OK. I know you can not predict one way or the other but most of you know my work and I know you will tell me if I should not bother to enter a particular shot. I thank you for you honesty and opinions.

Color ~ Animal, Wild:

Chimpanzee Hand

Color ~ Birds:

Sleeping Mallard Duck
Color ~ Floral:

Poppy Perfection

This is my first time entering anything like this but after the urging of several people I am taking the plunge! So be honest, I don't want to look silly. I am torn about entering as an Amateur or Advanced Amateur. Any thoughts on how to decide this?

Nice shots. And good luck with the entries. You aren't by chance entering the San Mateo County Fair competition are you? Or is it another county fair (I'm in San Mateo County). If it is the same fair maybe we'll get a chance to meet.

I really love the bridge and the duck. Nice captures. And you are not going to look silly.

No, it will have to be the Stanislaus County Fair. But maybe we could organize a photo walk sometime for Northern CA. folks and we could still get a chance to meet!
Good luck to you my friend!

Yeah, I found that you are in Stanislaus County (say that three time fast -- I love Stanislaus, it reminds of succatash LOL). But that would be great to arrange a photo walk for Nor. Cal. people.

I looked at the competition requirements for your fair and they are much more rigid as far as format than San Mateo County. SMC wants framed and yours will reject framed but wants mounted and a specific size. SMC doesn't even have a size requirement. What a trip how different they all are. L.A. County is only accepting on-line submissions for a juried competition. And Santa Clara County doesn't have anything for anyone over 19-years-old. These fair are all over the place.

That is funny, say Stanislaus three times fast! Cracked me up! I never thought of it that way but you are right it does sound like succatash.
Yeah, I know what you mean. My Mom is entering in Merced County and their rules are even more different. They will also except framed in Merced. Not sure why mine does not (are they afraid of that much glass or glare?). And you have to actually live in Merced County to enter there. Thus why I am entering in Stanislaus where I actually live. That way my Mom and I don't have to compete with each other also.
No one over 19 yo in Santa Clara well that eliminates a huge chunk of the population...What are they thinking? And LA sounds very picky...Wow!

All four are excellent for entering, Michelle. I love the one of the bridge, that's awesome! I can't wait till tomorrow to see the other 4 you choose. Good luck to you!!!

Yes, they are. They take submissions on-line for a juried competition. And it's only four specific categories. I only remember Fashion and Food. But it looks like they are seeking advertising quality photos (from what I read).

The judges will look at the on-line photos that are submitted (and only 800 pixals wide), make their choices and then contact the submitters they choose by email to send a higher resolution photo that the fair people will print and mount for the exhibit. Actually, I don't find it as daunting as the other fairs. But it is different.

I was just looking over their rules. Looks like they have a specific theme kind of in mind one to fit in with the recession. Not sure I have anything that really applies to that area. But yeah , I kind of like the idea of an online entry saves me a trip as well as printing and mounting. Kind of worth the higher entry free and then they mail your work to you in the end, sweet deal!

Something occurred to me: How come your Mom is not on the DPS? You should turn her onto this site. Unless you want to keep it all to yourself.

If that Northern CA photo walk ever happens, or even it talk about it get serious, I'd love to participate and walk! PMs are fine.
