Default albizia julibrissin.....

or as we southerners say....."look, ma, the mimosa's blooming!"

_MG_8233

this bloom has been difficult for me to shoot in the past......it's a "weed tree" that grows out in the open sun.....and usually, i'm still sipping coffee when the light is right......this time, it was still way too bright out.....but, i was in the mood and i had a speciman in mind.....there's few of these trees full enough to shade their own blossoms.....this one must be some thirty years old with a height of thirty feet and a spread of around 40.....i got up under it's canopy, set my camera to underexpose, and fired off a little diffused fill flash.....

thanks for looking

For starters, I love the word Mimosa. It is so musical. It must sound twice as nice with a southern accent! Secondly, I love this type of bloom. We have one in the desert called "Fairy Duster". That fits, too, huh? Note to anyone seeing this photo. Larger view a must. There are tiny little dots of light on each tip. Beautiful. Lastly, you describe perfectly a tension I have known myself. Coffee? Photo? Glad the photo trumped the coffee.

Love Mimosas. My grandparents had a second home in Unadilla, Georgia, where they once had a farm. It's one of those small towns where everybody knows everybody. They had two swings underneath a couple of huge Mimosa trees. They always took a break at 2 in the afternoon to have a coke. We'd walk over to the filling station next door (2 pumps and a small office) and get 6 ounce cokes in glass bottles for a nickel and if I was lucky I had a few cents extra to get a Tom's Peanut Butter Bar. Then we'd go and sit in the swings under the Mimosas and watch traffic go by on US 41. Thanks for the memories! I left out the bad part about Mimosas on purpose...didn't want to spoil the memory....they weep!

It sounds like a lot of thought and work went into this photo. It shows. You set up a great shot. I am still trying to figure out how to work with fill flash and this is a great example. The lighting looks natural and the details are sharp. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing how you took this. Most of us would probably just walk up and shoot and wonder why we can't get it to look this good.

Beautiful capture peeper! I haven't seen any Mimosas as big as this one but I really haven't searched for one either. Great job.

Absolutely gorgeous. You did a wonderful job with it too. Mimosa reminds me of a tasty drink. Some orange juice with a little champaign... Nice. Thanks for sharing this.

Hey, Peeper! I just checked the original on flickr...there's an inchworm on one of the leaves! How cool is that!
