amazing shots, especially nr. 4. she looks so cute on that front-difr light, and yet a bit agressive, like she is watching for her prey

Wonderful shots! What lens do you use for these shots? They are so clear and Crisp!
You must have a lot of varieties around where you live.
Great Shots
Chewys Dad.

Birds? From Pbdweeeebie? "Oh Goody!" "Your secret to getting jittery birds to sit and pose is what?" she said with a slight whine, trying to contain her envy. The lighting on your first bird is just perfect. Looks like a bird have here called a Curved-bill Thrasher. Thanks. That was just great.

I looked at the photos without seeing who put them on and when I saw the bulbul, I thought "I didn't know we had those here". , as I remember them well from South Africa, my favorite place in the world. Beautiful shots.

Thank you. Yes, I have to confess that I share the view that South Africa is certainly one of the most beautiful areas in which to live - there's a bit of just about everything at this end of the continent!

Hi LindyAnna. To be honest nothing unsual: move into place and wait, wait, wait and wait some more. When the birdies think you deserve a shot, they oblige and pose! On a more serious note, I find that getting down low and crawling is the best way to get closer - and one gets to smell, feel and taste the ground too!

Chewys Dad.
Thank you. All of these were shot on Nikon300+Sigma 150-500 in the 450-480mm range at around f/8. The lens does not like the 495-500mm area but it delivers acceptable results.

I'm on the "highveld" around 1.4km above sea level in Johannesburg and it is one of [if not the] largerst man-made forest. There are approximaltely 850-950 bird species in Southern Africa and a fair number occur in the area. These particular shots were taken in a local public park a short way from my home. These birds also frequent garden visitors.

I remember saying that! Thank you. Besides some technique, and bags of luck, its learning to apporoach the birds that is the steep part of the learning. But its fun too.

Thanks Beachcomber. Well worth the damp clothing at the end of it all!

Cheers to that. There is just so much more to photograph in birds and I am finding it harder and harder to be as enthusiastic about other forms of my own photography!
