Default Chasing a hyper cardinal in Louisville

Back a few weeks ago when we were at the Louisville zoo, I saw this cardinal flitting about in this thicket off to the side of the walking trail and I left my family to move on ahead a little bit while I tried to capture this bird. The thing would not for the life of it, stay still. I must have chased this thing for at least ten minutes just trying to get it to stay still in a place that had enough light and was open to the camera.....of course, it would flit away just as the focusing got tight. I am sure that a few muttered exasperated expletives slipped my tongue during the whole ordeal. I never ever really got a clean crisp photo of the cardinal. The focusing was always a tad off and perhaps that the camera was being handheld and I was in a rush before he flew again, but these are the best I could muster this time around.

You have never seen one? I did not think that California would be devoid of them

Really nice work Patrick . I love the colours. You did really well under difficult circumstances. Birds seem to fly away from me as soon as I reach for my camera. Guess I'll stick to flowers !!

Looks like you got some great shots even if he wasn't a willing model. Great job!

Nice captures of a beautiful bird. The cardinal is the state bird here in Illinois. We have a couple of mating pairs that live around our place. Have yet to get shots of them like yours, though. Very nice and thanks for sharing.
