Default Who Let The Dogs Out?... Prairie Dog style!

We took a jaunt out to the Sedgwick County Zoo this week. They have a new Tiger exhibit. The Tiger are still getting used to their surroundings, but the Prairie Dogs were out to play!

If a Prairie Dog senses danger, they give out a warning bark. This little guy threw his head back and sounded off!

Even when at play, one or two Prairie Dogs are on the lookout, sniffing the air and watching.

With big claws and the want to dig. Prairie Dogs dig intricate living areas. Here is one of the older group, taking a quick look outside.

You get the sense from watching the Prairie Dogs run around Prairie Dog Town, that having fun is a major reason for living. This young guy was having fun, but just the same, the whole is safety. When death can come from above or from any side direction. You learn early not to stray too far.

Have a great weekend.

These are good pictures Tom, and I guess the prairie dog falls into the cute category then, probabaly cute and vulnerable by the sound of it. You have done well to get such fine detail, good posting, I enjoyed seeing these

Thanks everyone. When these guys were first introduced to the SCZ. It was not long and they were loose from their containment and all over the park! Digging out was no problem. Digging is what they do for a living The Zoo has since changed the exhibit's security and that has seemed to work. For now...
