My son and I found this huge catepillar on a branch near a pond where we were fishing. This guy was at least 3" long -- and as big around as my pinky finger. The skies were cloudy, so I had to use a higher ISO, wide open aperture and slow shutter speed. Unfortunately, that yielded less than perfect photos.

I used to see ones like these on some wild tomato plants that grew down by the stream.
We called them Tomato Worms, but I'm sure they would eat almost anything. Great shots Thanks for Sharing these Chewys Dad.

THANKS for the compliments on the "monster catepillar". We didn't use him for bait, or even touch him. My son and I just oooh'd and ahhh'd over him, took some pics and let him go about his day. I'm glad everyone enjoyed the photos!

I agree, they are great. Thanks for letting us ooh and ahh over the photos. It is a great subject, and I would not have noticed the high ISO or other drawbacks that you did. One of the hardest things for me to accept is that people still like something even if I don't think it turned out well because it didn't match my vision. Great work.

These shots are fantastic, but I think I may have walked the other way, he is huge, lol.
Someone said fish bait, omg you would have had to touch it, not me.

I mighta lost a finger if I grabbed that sucker. LOL! The funny part is that my son (7yo at the time) told me there was a "huge catepillar down by the water". I brushed him off three times; thinking huge meant an inch or so long, with "whiskers". When I finally went down to the water's edge, I almost fell over. Noah was right. That rascal was HUGE, for a catepillar (or tomato worm as Chewy's Dad called him).
